# What does SRI mean on exterior paint, and why does it matter? | Time Paints

SRI is the Solar Reflectance Index, a number that measures how much solar heat a surface reflects and releases. A higher SRI means a cooler wall, which cracks less and fades more slowly under intense sun. Lighter colors have higher SRI values, which is why pale facades cope better with Saudi heat than dark ones.
