Should accent colors always be bold?
Not necessarily. In calm, monochromatic schemes, the accent might simply be a deeper value of the same hue. In complementary schemes, even a muted version of the complementary color provides contrast. Bold accents suit energetic spaces; subtle accents suit restful ones.
