# Can walls be painted in winter? | Time Paints

Yes, walls can be painted in winter in Saudi Arabia, and in most regions the climate is mild enough that winter presents few significant challenges. The primary conditions to verify before starting are: the surface temperature must be above 5°C, the surface must be completely dry with no moisture from rain or condensation, and relative humidity should not be excessively high. For new plaster, wait a minimum of 28 days before painting — regardless of season — to allow full carbonation and moisture release. Failing to wait results in poor adhesion, alkali attack on the paint film, and premature peeling. In colder areas such as Tabuk and Abha, where temperatures can drop below 5°C at night, schedule exterior painting for midday when surfaces are warmer. Do not apply exterior paint if rain is forecast within 24 hours of application. Interior painting in winter requires adequate ventilation to allow water vapour from water-based paint to escape.
